Exolit®

Exolit® 855 is a proprietary mixture containing liquid partial phosphoric acid esters for intumescent transparent fire protection applications for wood. The clear liquid is fully soluble in water, non-hygroscopic and non-flammable.

Exolit® AP 420 is an approx. 45 % clear to cloudy aqueous solution of a short-chain ammonium polyphosphate.

Exolit® AP 422 is a fine-particle ammonium polyphosphate (phase II) produced by a special method. The product is largely insoluble in water and completely insoluble in organic solvents. It is colorless, non-hygroscopic and non-flammable.

Exolit® AP 422 A is a fine-particle ammonium polyphosphate (phase II) with less than 0.1% melamine. The product is largely insoluble in water and completely insoluble in organic solvents. It is colorless, non-hygroscopic, non-flammable, and classified as SVHC-free under current regulations.

Exolit® AP 423 is a fine-particle ammonium polyphosphate produced by a special method. The crystal modification is phase II. The product is largely insoluble in water and completely insoluble in organic solvents. It is a white powder, non-hygroscopic and non-flammable.

Exolit® AP 428 is a fine-particle ammonium polyphosphate produced by a special method. The product is largely insoluble in water and completely insoluble in organic solvents. It is colorless, non-hygroscopic and non-flammable. Exolit® AP 428 differs from most other commercial products in the following ways: - greatly reduced solubility in water lower viscosity in aqueous suspensions - lower viscosity in PU polyol suspensions.

Exolit® AP 435 is a fine-particle ammonium polyphosphate (phase II) optimized for low viscosity in aqueous suspension and intumescent coatings. The product is largely insoluble in water and completely insoluble in organic solvents. It is colorless, non-hygroscopic and non-flammable.

Exolit® AP 462 is a product based on ammonium polyphosphate. The crystal modification is phase II. It is manufactured from ammonium polyphosphate by micro-encapsulation with melamine resin according to Clariant’s own method. Exolit® AP 462 is a fine-particle white powder with very low solubility in water, even at elevated temperatures. It is completely insoluble in organic solvents. The product is non-hygroscopic and non-flammable.

Exolit® AP 740 is a white free flowing powder. It is a non-halogenated additive flame retardant based on ammonium polyphosphate which develops its effectiveness through phosphorus/nitrogen synergism. Exolit® AP 740 differs in its mode of action from chlorine or bromine containing flame retardants by achieving its effect through intumescence. The flame retarded material foams on exposure to flame. The carbon foam layer so formed protects the polymer through its heat-insulating effect and reduces further oxygen access.

Exolit® AP 750 is a non-halogenated flame retardant based on ammonium polyphosphate as main component, which develops its effectiveness through phosphorus/nitrogen synergism. In contrast to similar competitive material, it shows high processing stability. Exolit® AP 750 differs in its mode of action from non phosphorus-based flame retardants (e. g. brominated, chlorinated or mineral FRs like ATH) by achieving its effect through intumescence. Material containing Exolit® AP 750 will foam on exposure to flame. The carbon-rich foam layer so formed will protect the polymer and in many cases the substrate below through its heat-insulating effect, reduces further oxygen access and prevents dripping in case of a thermoplastic based formulation. Beyond the primary effects on fire behavior such as reduction of flame propagation rate, rate of heat release, dripping behavior, residual lengths of test specimens after flame tests etc., positive secondary fire effects such as low smoke density, no release of corrosive off-gasses, lower formation of toxic smoke gasses are of great interest.

Exolit® AP 740 S is a white free flowing powder. It is a non-halogenated additive flame retardant based on ammonium polyphosphate which develops its effectiveness through phosphorus/nitrogen synergism. Exolit® AP 740 S differs in its mode of action from chlorine or bromine containing flame retardants by achieving its effect through intumescence and has compared to Exolit® AP 740 a reduced water uptake. The flame retarded material foams on exposure to flame. The carbon foam layer so formed protects the polymer through its heat-insulating effect and reduces further oxygen access.

Exolit® IFR 36 is a non-halogenated flame retardant based on ammonium polyphosphate, which develops its effectiveness through phosphorus/nitrogen synergism. Exolit® IFR 36 differs in its mode of action from chlorine- or bromine-containing flame retardants by achieving its effect through intumescence. The flame retarded material foams on exposure to flame. The carbon foam layer so formed protects the polymer through its heat insulating effect and reduces further oxygen access.

Exolit® OP 1230 is a white, fine-grained powder based on an organic phosphinate. The product is non-hygroscopic and it is insoluble in water and organic solvents. Exolit® OP flame retardants for polyamides are all based on aluminum diethyl-phosphinate (= DEPAL). The pure substance DEPAL is sold as Exolit OP 1230 and in combination with synergists as Exolit® OP 13xx types. Exolit® OP 1230 is the first non-halogenated flame retardant which can withstand the demanding requirements of this high end segment of engineering plastics.
