Key Properties

When added to thermoplastic resin systems at 0.1 % to 1 %, improved processing and flow of the resin is expected, including less extruder torque, less extruder die pressure, faster throughput, reduction of melt viscosity and better mold filling. At higher addition levels, 1 % to 5 %, also improved surface properties are expected, including lower coefficient of friction and greater mar and abrasion resistance. GENIOPLAST® PELLET S can also improve burning characteristics of polyolefins when applied in combination with halogen free flame retardant fillers. GENIOPLAST® PELLET S is expected to give improved benefits compared to conventional lower molecular weight additives, e.g. less screw slippage, long-term low coefficient of friction, fewer paint and printing problems, and a broader range of performance capabilities. GENIOPLAST® PELLET S does not contain any thermoplastic resin as a carrier but some quantity of fumed silica instead. Fumed silica as a constituent of the pelletized formulation does not show any adverse effect in the application; it provides general compatibility with thermoplastic resin when used as a compounding additive in thermoplastic systems to impart benefits such as processing improvements and modification of surface characteristics.

Processing Information

GENIOPLAST® PELLET S is an additive specifically designed for the compounding and masterbatch industry. Suitable equipment for compounding comprises twin-screw extruder, co-kneader and batch-mixer. Because of its high thermal stability, GENIOPLAST® PELLET S can be applied over a wide temperature range, up to 300 °C (570 °F). Compounding and subsequent processing conditions are determined by the thermoplastic resin GENIOPLAST ® PELLET S is added to for the compounding process. GENIOPLAST® PELLET S can be added at the feeding zone of the extruder either as pre-mix together with the resin polymer pellets or via separate feeding unit; it can also be added via side-feeder. It is recommended to avoid pressure when feeding GENIOPLAST® PELLET S which may result in deformation of the pellets.
