Preventol® A 14-D is a preservative used to inhibit the growth of fungi and algae in paints, coatings, plasters, sealants and fillers in architectural products, finishes and special purpose coatings.
- Product Applications
- Preventol® A 14-D is an aqueous dipersion which can be added during the production process or straight into ready-for use emulsion paints (pH up to approximately 10). To ensure an even and reliable effectiveness homogenous distribution during incorporation is necessary.
- As a pumpable dispersion, it is highly suitable for application in automated production processes. Preventol® A 14-D has good flow capabilities and as consequence shows good handling properties.
- The active ingredients in Preventol® A 14-D has a low degree of water solubility and therefore shows a good leaching resistance. This contributes to a long service time of the applied paint. Leaching depends also on the type of resin used in the paint.
- Diskoloration or other incompatibilities are not normally observed using Preventol® A 14-D.
- Due to the large number of different paint types found in the market, we recommend that the individual paint formulation be tested for compatibility and biological efficacy.
- Due to the delivery form of Preventol® A 14-D as an aqueous dispersion it can easily be incorporated into the product to be preserved at various stages of the production process, either in an early stage by adding the preservative with thorough agitation together with the pigments and fillers, or the preferred method which is to add the preservative at the end of the production process, particularly when pigment and filler- free coatings are produced.
- Preventol® A 14-D should be thoroughly mixed to ensure uniform distribution of the preservative in the finished product. In addition to the incorporation of the Preventol® A 14-D as a dry film preservative, LANXESS in-can preservative should be incorporated to inhibit microbial degradation of the finished product during storage.
