Other Hazards
Prolonged and/or massive exposure to respirable crystalline silicacontaining dust may cause silicosis, a nodular pulmonary fibrosis caused by deposition in the lungs of fine respirable particles of crystalline silica. 2009 IARC review of crystalline silica found that the polymorph type and specific exposure scenarios may lead to higher risk of chronic illnesses.
