AEROSIL® R 974 W Silica

AEROSIL® R 974 W is a hydrophobic fumed silica after treated with DDS (Dimethyldichlorosilane) based on a hydrophilic fumed silica with a specific surface area of 200m²/g. The product thickening efficiency of AEROSIL® R 974 W ex RHE is consistent with the Waterford-produced AEROSIL® R 974. This profile is different than the thickening profile of standard RHE quality.

Storage & Handling

Storage Conditions

Our silica products are inert and chemically extremely sta- ble. However, due to their high specific surface area, they can adsorb moisture and volatile organic compounds from the surrounding atmosphere. Products have to be stored in their original packaging (e.g. fully shrink-wrapped) or in sealed containers in a dry place away (or apart) from vola- tile organic substances. Even if a product is stored in these conditions, it can still pick up ambient moisture after a long time, which can cause it to exceed the stated ex works moisture content. For this reason, our recommended use-by date is 24 months after date of manufacture. Prod- uct more than 24 months old should be tested for moisture content before use in order to make certain that it is still suitable for the intended application.
