Additin® RC 5800 protects primarily copper and cobalt, including their alloys, as well as nickel from corrosion, forming a very thin, stable and virtually colorless film on the metal surface. The formation and accumulation of copper ions in the products, e.g. cooling or heat transfer fluids, are prevented and consequently the copper ion catalyzed oxidation or degradation reactions are avoided. Copper ions can also cause pitting on metals such as aluminum, zinc, iron and steel. Additin® RC 5800 can be combined with other corrosion inhibitors, e.g. sodium benzoate, borax, silicate, nitrite, molybdate, phosphate and organic phosphorus compounds and increases their effectiveness. Additin® RC 5800 is effective at very low concentrations (see table below, "Typical treatment levels"). As a liquid Additin® RC 5800 offers further advantages such as ease of handling, processing, dosage and excellent solubility in glycols. In most applications Additin® RC 5800 can be used in place of solid tolyl- triazole (Additin® RC 8221). In this case the addition of Additin® RC 5800 should be approx. 2.3 times higher than the respective amount of tolyltriazole.

- Solubility Data
Depending on the concentration, dilutions with water are slightly cloudy. The cloudiness can be overcome, if required, by adding methanol, ethanol or isopropanol. However, it is necessary to verify the solubility in the base fluids used and the compatibility with other additives. Additin® RC 5800 is not compatible with acids or highly acidic solutions.
